If you’re looking to market your martial arts classes to schools, there is a very simple formula to follow.
Firstly you need to identify what the main talking points are for martial arts classes in schools. Basically, what will the children gain from your classes.
- Self defence
- Discipline
- Confidence
- Fitness
- Anti-Bullying
We would then suggest offering schools a free demonstration/class where students can participate as well. This will help both you and the school see how much interest there is in your style of martial arts.
When you approach a school, you want to be upfront with what your end goals are. You may be wanting to promote your local classes and are looking to stage a demonstration so students in that school join your local classes. Or, you may want to encourage the school to allow you to hold regular classes at the school. Don’t forget that no matter what your end goal is, becoming integrated in your local communities will increase business over time.
Speak with either the principle or deputy principle but ask to set an appointment first. Make sure when you go that you can prove that you have the correct insurances in place and are also DBS checked to work with children.
Ask the school principle what challenges they feel their students face in the real world. Is it bullying, knife attacks, confidence or a mix of things?
Reward Attendees
Work on a solution with them and if possible, try and build your own basic certification for attending the class.
The reason for this is because you want the students to go home and proudly show their parents that they attended your demonstration. Include an invitation to your martial arts classes for a free class and outline the different things that can be achieved through martial arts.

Don’t be disappointed if you don’t immediately get an influx of students. This is something you need to work on and we suggest agreeing a series of classes tackling different topics on a monthly basis.
Not to sound boring, but if you were to do an email marketing campaign you find people are for receptive once they have seen emails from the same company at least 4 or 5 times.
This is no different!
You could try asking the school if they minded them offering student parents a multiple-choice questionnaire as to what their main concerns are so you could then incorporate this in your next class.
Name Recognition Will Get You Results!
Over time you will see more students coming to you because your name is out there. Parents will feel far more comfortable with their children coming to your classes as you are a known entity. The students won’t feel nervous about their first class with you because they already know you!
