Far from competitive, Yin Yoga is a gentle type of yoga. It is done slowly and targets the body’s deep connective tissues through passive postures that aim to increase mobility. A 60-minute class would typically consist of only about 10 poses. Since it only applies moderate stress to the body, this makes it perfect for first-timers, experienced yogis, recovering athletes, and even seniors and teens.
Yin Yoga and Restorative Yoga are technically two different things. Both are slow-paced and allow the students to focus on breathing and calming the mind. Restorative Yoga only differs slightly in that it specifically aims to restore an injured or unhealthy body. Both Yin Yoga Classes and Restorative Yoga Classes are suitable for all levels. Should you have any medical concerns, please inform your yoga teacher regardless of the style of yoga before joining a class to ensure safety.
Each experience may vary depending on the exact class type you take. For the most part, expect to spend most of the session to be spent on the ground. You’ll be doing passive poses and practicing breathwork and meditation. Reward yourself with productive relaxation and give Yin Yoga classes a go!
