A Few Things to Keep in Mind When Booking Your English Language Tutor

Is the English Language Tutor Near Me?

Area, area, area, it’s so important to find the right English Language tutor near you, in or around your area! If you end up choosing a Tutor who is difficult to get to, you’ll be less likely to attend and will end up wasting lots of time. Use the Classes A2Z system to enter your area and run a search for English Language Tutors near you. Once you’ve chosen your tutor, make sure you ask for their local area so you can see how easy it will be to get to. However, with many English Language tutors you’ll be pleased to know that they’re willing to travel to you!

Private Tuition at my place or the English Language tutor’s place?

So, where’s the best place to have your English Language tuition? You have a few choices because you can have the tutor come to your home, try online lessons or travel to the tutor’s place or tuition centre. Convenience is normally at the top of people’s priority list, but you also need to consider where you’ll learn best. Some people find it better to have tuition away from home as they can concentrate better. In this case you have the choice of going to the English Language tutor’s place or attending one of our listed tuition centres near you. If you feel more comfortable at home or find travelling is going to be difficult, weigh up the options between the English Language tutor coming to your home or having online tuition.

  • Your home
  • Tutor’s home
  • Tuition Centre
  • Online

Basically, it’s a personal choice but before making that choice always remember that learning is the end goal so you must ask yourself “Where am I going to learn most?”.

Does the English Language tutor have the right experience for me?

No two English Language tutors are the same and no two students are the same either, so it’s imperative you explain to your tutor in chat what you need to accomplish and share any challenges you are currently having. When you have your first English Language lesson it’s always best to look upon it as an exploratory meeting where both you and your English Language tutor can work out how best to help you. If in the unlikely situation the tutor feels they are unable to help, you will find that many tutors will tell you rather than wasting your time. Tutors take pride in being able to see improvements in their students and share in your success as your success is your tutor’s success too!

Private English Language Tutor, Tutoring Agency or Tuition Centre?

There are three main choices when it comes down to getting extra tutoring and again it comes down to personal choice.

Price can be a deciding factor when it comes to choosing your English Language tutor and we have found that private tutors can be more affordable. This is all very well but you should also think about a tutoring agency or Tuition Centre as they do have their benefits. You’ll be able to switch English Language tutor easily if your current tutor isn’t working out for you plus you should get cover if and when your tutor is sick or on holiday. This applies for tuition centres as well but you also get to use their facilities. This means you will be taking lessons in a dedicated learning environment which can help with concentration. Another benefit is that very often you’ll be able to join a small English Language study group which isn’t one to one but does cut the cost down.

At Classes A2Z you will find a multitude of solutions so have a look through the profiles and send some enquiries. Our advice is to send at least 2 different members an enquiry so you can get faster answers and a better choice. Please bear in mind that the members may not always have the available time you’re looking for so sending an enquiry to more than one member is the best practice!

General English is the perfect course for students who wish to improve their communication. That is, talking with people over a wide range of topics and everyday situations. Our General English courses are suitable for students over the age of 16 who would like to improve their use of English. Students can do this whilst living, studying or working in the United Kingdom. A typical general English class would cover all aspects of English. This, generally, includes grammar, speaking, reading, writing and listening. The maximum number of students in each class is 16 but, on average, there are about 8-10 students per class. Most importantly, our teachers care about your progress. Upon arrival, students are tested and placed into the appropriate level. Additionally, on the first day, students will discuss goals with the Director of Studies. Thereafter, students will do a test every five weeks and discuss their progress with their teacher.

I’m an Oxford English graduate, and I’ve been working as a private tutor and schoolmaster since 2009 after several years as a strategy consultant. I teach English, Maths and French plus most other Common Entrance and GCSE/IGCSE subjects (and photography). I’m based in Putney and have given private lessons to 501 students of all ages, including some with dyslexia, autism, ADHD and other Special Educational Needs. I’ve taught Verbal and Non-verbal Reasoning to 53 pupils, Maths to 263 and English to 351. That includes 56 trainee teachers and 262 school entry candidates, mostly at 11+ and 13+, some of whom have now won places at schools such as Harrow, St Paul’s and Eton. I’ve taught 63 of my students online using Skype and carried out residential assignments in Belarus, Greece, Hong Kong, Kenya, Russia, Switzerland and Turkey.
