Martial Arts for Self-Defense

Yes, it is good to know how to defend yourselves but most instructors will tell you that there is no winner when it comes to standing toe to toe with an assailant and trying to beat them. The best self defence strategy is to always escape as fast as possible and run away. What martial arts will do, is help teach you how to escape, how to break a grip, possibly disable the assailant and then get out of there! One of the key factors to your escape is confidence in the knowledge that you CAN escape.

"My child loves going to karate, it keeps him fit and entertained. He's really started to come out of his shell over the last couple of years." Sensai Ganesh Sensei Ganesh was born in 1948 in the Northern peninsula of Sri Lanka. Raised in a large working class family of modest means, Sensei Ganesh sought success both academically and athletically. He commenced his karate career in Colombo aged 22 under the guidance of Sensei Bonnie Roberts. Following an ethos of hard work and discipline, Sensei Ganesh soon gained recognition amongst his peers and community at large after consecutive successes in renowned competitions. After numerous calls for him to commence a school of his own, Sensei Ganesh finally relented by starting a dojo in April 1973 whilst only a yellow belt himself. First Martial Arts Tutor Subsequently, Sensei Ganesh was to become the first martial arts tutor in the northern region. Sensei Ganesh moved to the UK in 1990 with his family where he quickly established a dojo with a few students largely consis ting of his four children. Gradually expanding to three dojos, Sensei Ganesh soon found himself joining the Amateur Shotokan Karate Association, where under the teachings of Sensei Balwant Singh Sahans and Sensei Harvinder Sagoo, he would come to nurture the more philosophical teachings of karate. Won the World Championship - 2011 This ultimately has helped Sensei Ganesh to grow not only his understanding of the art but in turn develop his students into more complete martial artists. Despite coaching many of his students to various successes both at the regional and national levels, Sensei Ganesh himself remains highly competitive participating in various high calibre tournaments and he won the world championship in 2011.
